Goodwill Career Center open, offering assistance to workers and employers

The Goodwill Career Center has reopened after an extended closure forced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brittany Fuhrmann, manager of career services at Goodwill in South Arkansas, said the nonprofit is happy to once again offer its free career services to workers and employers.

Since 2009, Goodwill Industries of Arkansas has offered assistance to workers looking to prepare for employment, as well as employers looking to staff their businesses. Both groups can benefit from the assistance of Goodwill free of charge.

Fuhrmann said workers can access support including interview preparation, job preparation training, career assessment, resume support, career counseling and job assistance. job search.

Help for workers is available both in person, at Goodwill at 1430 N. West Ave. (in the mall with Victory Church) or online through the association’s “virtual career portal” at goodwill.org/jobs-training.

“Goodwill has provided career advice to over 18,000 people and placed over 5,200 in employment over the past two years statewide,” Fuhrman said.

A computer lab is also available at Goodwill for job seekers from El Dorado; Fuhrmann noted that computers can help workers improve their “digital literacy”.

Business owners or other employers can also find help through Goodwill’s employee placement services. Furhmann said the organization is currently working with Hugg & Hall in El Dorado on employee placement and is open to more partnerships.

“Since the reopening, we have been building our partnerships with employers in El Dorado,” she said.

Employer services offered by Goodwill include the ability to list vacancies on the non-profit organization’s online employer portal; the development and implementation of personalized training for potential and existing workers; skilled worker referrals; and coordination of training for new employees.

“Our team can also facilitate and organize hiring events,” said Fuhrmann.

The Goodwill Career Center is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
